ONLINE: Connecting the Dots: Looking at your Practice as a Mirror of your Life

8 Week Class ONLINE | Registration opens 2026-10-15 12:00 PM

Is there a unifying thread that runs through your art practice? Do you recognize what connects your work, and how does it show up? Is this underlying connection visible to others, and do you want it to be?

This online course invites you to explore your art practice from new perspectives. Within a safe, supportive group, we virtually step into each other’s studios to share insights into our creative processes and the stories that shape them. You will have dedicated space to speak about your practice and be truly heard by your peers. Each session includes inspiring, collaborative brainstorming around potential directions for your work, whether focused on content, process, aesthetics, materials, or how your art lives beyond the studio.

The course is shaped by the diverse approaches of its participants, alongside the instructor’s three decades of experience in international exhibitions and artmaking. Iris Haussler fosters a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere that supports playful, open-ended exploration. Her background as a certified FLOW life coach further informs this approach, creating a space grounded in creative curiosity and growth. Driven by the momentum of our shared energy, you are also welcome to make art during class.

Note: A requirement of this class is to have a body of work or works in progress.

Häussler, Iris
Iris Häussler

Iris studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 2001.Iris Häussler has explored many ways to offer art experiences at the fringe or outside the White Cube. She is interested in creating inclusive art environments open to everybody, rather than catering to the art market only. This has a long history: she created her very first site specific art-installation for a group exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1988, choosing the women’s toilets of all places. Since then, she has exhibited in basements, trailers, garages, coach houses, apartments, churches, chapels, stores, hotel-rooms, industrial buildings and historic houses as well as in international museums, galleries and Biennials.

Häussler’s work is found in international collections including the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; the Städtische Sammlung im Lenbachhaus, Munich and the Goetz Collection, Munich, Germany. She also held a guest professorship at the Academy of Fine Art in Munich in 1999 and has given talks about her work in universities and art institutions in Canada, the USA, and Europe. Her work received awards and grants including the Karl-Hofer Prize (Berlin), the Kunstfonds Fellowship (Bonn), the Toronto Arts Council, the Chalmers Arts Foundation, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts.
