Youth Clay Club (10-13 yrs)

If you love getting your hands messy join this fun and exciting course and explore the creative possibilities of clay while developing hand-building skills and artistic confidence.
Through a variety of fun and inspiring projects, you will learn foundational techniques including pinch pots, coil building and slab construction to create animals, characters, vessels, functional pottery and imaginative sculptures. During the term, you will explore texture, form and surface design while learning about the properties of clay, studio tools and ceramic processes. Your creations will be glazed and kiln-fired, giving you the opportunity to add colour and personality to your finished pieces. Through a combination of group demonstrations, guided instruction and individual support, this course encourages creativity, problem-solving and self-expression in a welcoming studio environment. It also provides a wonderful opportunity to connect with other young artists, make new friends and share in the creative process.
Base Tuition: $550 + Material Fee: $30 = $580 Total

- What You Will Learn:
- How to create sculptures and functional objects using pinch, coil and slab techniques- How to glaze and decorate your ceramic pieces
- How to develop concepts, share ideas and discuss your creative process with peers
- How to talk about, present and reflect on your finished work
- The material fee includes 10 lbs of Cone 6 stoneware clay, all firings and use of glazes on site. Note: Additional bags of clay are available for purchase at TSA (note: all clay used at TSA, must be purchased from TSA).
- A basic pottery tool kit like these from Tucker’s Pottery Supply in Markham or Above Ground Art Supply (several Toronto locations). TSA will stock a limited number of these kits for sale.
- Apron (clay is messy!)
- Sculpting tools
- Paint brushes - new for detailed painting/worn brushes for different techniques
- Small washcloth or tea towel
- Sketch book (mixed media paper 9”x12”)
- Sources for texture (stone, wood, leaves, cloth etc)
Tina Oehmsen-Clark
Tina's work has always been an exploration between various art forms, including sound, dance, installation, sculpture and drawing. She has exhibited in various galleries, museums and public spaces in Germany, Denmark and Canada. Since moving to Toronto in 1996, Oehmsen-Clark has worked on art projects at the AGO, Ryerson Student Gallery, Dancemakers and Wychwood Artscape. Besides her own art practice, she has taught in a number of schools and institutions including TSA. Tina always enjoys working with a wide age range, and believes that teaching art is an interactive learning process, both to inspire and be inspired.
