Fall Reflections: Monoprinting & Drawing

Suitable for beginner to intermediate artists, this ONLINE course encourages curiosity, experimentation and creative exploration in a supportive online environment. Students will explore the expressive relationship between monoprinting with gelli plates and drawing, while working with a variety of wet and dry media including inks, watercolour, pencil crayons and more. You will learn to include self made stencils, printing plates, stamps, collected Fall materials, as well as preparing backgrounds and working with multiple layers. Through demonstrations, guided exercises and individual projects, participants will build a body of work that captures the mood, colour and changing light of Fall.

Note: There will be no class on Monday, October 12th due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

  • What You Will Learn:
    - Monoprinting techniques with Gelli Plates and block printing inks
    - Additive and subtractive mark-making processes
    - Creating texture, layering and atmospheric effects
    - Developing composition and visual storytelling
    - Translating seasonal observations into expressive artwork
    - Building a personal series of unique prints and mixed-media drawings

    Pad of Printing Paper
    Set of good quality pencil crayons and pencils
    Watercolours and round and flat brushes, various sizes (small to medium)
    Fine liner pen (0.8)
    Gelli printing plate made for printing with block printing inks (Speedball or Gelli Arts)
    Block printing inks (tubes), various colours
    Soft brayer/roller (preferably 2)

    More materials will be discussed in class.

Tina Oehmsen-Clark

Tina's work has always been an exploration between various art forms, including sound, dance, installation, sculpture and drawing. She has exhibited in various galleries, museums and public spaces in Germany, Denmark and Canada. Since moving to Toronto in 1996, Oehmsen-Clark has worked on art projects at the AGO, Ryerson Student Gallery, Dancemakers and Wychwood Artscape. Besides her own art practice, she has taught in a number of schools and institutions including TSA. Tina always enjoys working with a wide age range, and believes that teaching art is an interactive learning process, both to inspire and be inspired.
