Acrylic Colour Mixing & Practical Applications

12 Week Class ONLINE | Registration opens 2026-07-02 12:00 PM

This ONLINE course will look at building a simple, straight forward, practical understanding of colour theory, colour mixing, colour matching and using a specially developed colour wheel. We will use our studies to support creating various colour ‘moods’ in a sketchbook format, employing very simple subjects as our starting point. Instructor demonstrations will help students to understand the ABC’s of manipulating acrylic paint.

  • What You Will Learn:
    - Acrylic Basics & Colour Mixing
    - Introduction to Basic Acrylic Materials; the pigments and the basic acrylic mediums
    - Learning the fundamental language of painting
    - Colour mixing and colour matching
    - Explore methods of starting a painting
    - Learning to use basic Acrylic Mediums to extend paint, increase drying time, build texture and alter surface finishes
    - Using uncomplicated subject matter as our starting point, working on small canvas to facilitate completion of introductory projects

Tina Poplawski

Tina has been an instructor at the Toronto School of Art since 1993. Poplawski has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Ontario, Quebec and New York. Two galleries in Toronto, the V. MacDonnell Gallery and Lehmann Leskiw Fine Art, have represented Poplawski. Her work is found in North American and European collections both corporate and private. She is the recipient of many awards, including numerous Ontario Art Council Grants. Her work focuses on textured paintings, sculptural objects and paper works arranged into multi-faceted installations. Her art practice focuses on the contrasting concerns of destruction and re-creation, violent upheaval and spiritual renewal. Her work is driven by themes of loss, returning to the earth's embrace and patterns in nature.
