Introduction to Landscape Painting

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of landscape painting through composition, colour mixing, and expressive brushwork techniques. Working primarily from photographic references, students will explore how artists translate land, space, and atmosphere into visual language. Emphasis is placed on understanding form, depth, and colour relationships, as well as developing a personal response to the natural environment rather than focusing on strict realism.
Notes:
- This course will be taught using acrylics, however oil painters (using odorless spirits only) are welcome.
- This course is best suited for people with some painting experience.

Leila Refahi
Leila is an experienced art teacher and researcher with a demonstrated history of working in Visual Art. She has taught painting and drawing in different art schools and universities in Canada, Finland, Germany and Iran since 2011. Leila works with painting, installation and digital media to create participatory art experiences. Her work mainly focuses on environmental issues, climate change and endangered animals. She is interested in socially engaged art and its impact on raising and transforming environmental knowledge in communities. She has presented six solo exhibitions and participated in over 60 national & international group exhibitions and festivals.
