Ceramics: Handbuilding Fundamentals

In this course, students will experience the versatility of hand-building with clay. Using three fundamental construction techniques that include pinch, coil and slab, students can build any type of object or form, including sculpture and/or pottery. Students will be encouraged to combine different building methods and develop surface detail using additive and reductive techniques. Instruction will also include various surface design techniques for glaze application.

Note: There will be no class on Monday, February 16 due to the Family Day Holiday.

Base Tuition: $530 + Material Fee: $60 = $590 Total

  • What You Will Learn:
    - Learn techniques to make pinch pots, coil building and slab construction
    - Explore surface design techniques including carving & relief decoration, inlay, glaze painting and masking techniques
    - Focus and testing with surface design process which includes relief and using molds
