Drypoint & Relief Printmaking

Students will learn the intaglio process of drypoint by scratching into metal plates to create both b/w and colour prints. The emphasis will be on tonalities, detail, and mark-making. In the relief printmaking part of the program, students will carve into linoleum to create a b/w image and translate that image into a multiple coloured print.Throughout the program students will be exposed to a wide variety of print artists.
Base Tuition: $505 + Material Fee: $50 = $555 Total

- Printing multiple plate images with colour
- How to register images on the press
- Students will learn about registration, colour mixing, and tonal contrasts through form and line
- How to carve into wood and linoleum
- How to register your image on the press
- Reduction printing
- - And/or multiple block printing
- Mixing colours with oil based ink
Brian Hoxha
Brian has been teaching at the Toronto School of Art since 2004. He is also an educator in watercolour and printmaking at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Granite Club, and through private instruction. He is a long-time member of Open Studio, the artist-run centre and print studio. Hoxha’s work (watercolour, oil painting and printmaking) explores the beauty and solace of the natural world, finding inspiration in the breathtakingly beautiful landscapes of Northern Ontario, Western Canada, Newfoundland and Montana in particular. Hoxha is currently represented by Nouveau Gallery in Regina, Saskatchewan, as well as by a variety of art consultants in Toronto.
