Botanicals & Fantasy: Drawing & Printmaking
11 Week Class ONLINE | Available
In this ONLINE course, get inspired by the rich intersections between plant symbolism, folk and fairy tales, and the visual language of storytelling through drawing and printmaking. We will investigate how botanical elements have long been used to convey meaning, magic, and memory found in mythologies, legends, and oral traditions across diverse cultures.
You will be introduced to monoprinting, using gelli plates which offer exciting possibilities - including self made stencils, printing plates, stamps, image and drawing transfers, mark making as well as preparing backgrounds and working with multiple layers. Lectures on folklore, myth, and plant symbolism from multiple cultures will be discussed. Student work will be shown and discussed at the end of each class and individual feedback will be part of each session. By the end of the course, participants will have a body of visual work that reflects personal interpretations of myth, nature, and symbolism.
Note: There will be no class on October 13th due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.
