Ceramics: Throwing Composite Forms

In this course, students will incorporate throwing skills learned in previous sessions to make larger pieces made from 2 or more composite pieces thrown on the wheel and joined together afterwards. Different joining methods will be demonstrated to create pieces with visible or hidden seams. Students will be encouraged to combine construction and decorative techniques to create functional and/or sculptural pieces. To get the most out of this class, students should be able to comfortably center and throw a cylinder of 2 pounds of clay or more.

Annika Hoefs
Annika is a Toronto based artist and educator, specializing in ceramics. She holds a Bachelor of Material Art and Design from OCADU where she initially began with a focus on textiles, but ended with a full concentration on ceramics. Alongside her studio practice, she has been teaching ceramic classes to students of all ages and skill levels since 2016. Annika’s functional and sculptural ceramics can be found in select gallery shops, restaurants and luxury hotels, locally and internationally.
