Introduction to Soft Pastels

6 Week Class | Available

This beginners course will introduce you to soft pastels and their possibilities to create painterly works of art from imagery and imagination. You will be learning about various types of soft pastels, application techniques and grounds as well as safe handling, storage and economical use. You will create preliminary value studies as well as final pieces considering topic, composition, colour palette and more. Through demonstrations and short presentations, you will learn about pastel artists throughout history and the instructor will provide feedback through class critique and individual mentoring.

Base Tuition: $333 + Material Fee: $15 = $348 Total

    - How to mix colours with pastels including tones, tints and shades
    - How to create an image with soft pastels applying composition, close ups and cropping in preliminary test pieces and value studies
    - How to create backgrounds & build up an image
    - Discover historical & contemporary pastel artists
    - Learn to choose a suitable image, paper and discuss and present your work

Tina Oehmsen-Clark

Tina's work has always been an exploration between various art forms, including sound, dance, installation, sculpture and drawing. She has exhibited in various galleries, museums and public spaces in Germany, Denmark and Canada. Since moving to Toronto in 1996, Oehmsen-Clark has worked on art projects at the AGO, Ryerson Student Gallery, Dancemakers and Wychwood Artscape. Besides her own art practice, she has taught in a number of schools and institutions including TSA. Tina always enjoys working with a wide age range, and believes that teaching art is an interactive learning process, both to inspire and be inspired.
