Introduction to Acrylics

This course will introduce students to the versatile world of acrylic paint. Students will explore the fundamentals, including the properties of pigments, binders, acrylic mediums, and gels. We will emphasize hands-on experimentation, learning how to manipulate acrylics using various mediums and application techniques tailored to individual creative needs. Whether extending blending time with slow-drying mediums, sculpting textures with heavy gels or paste, or utilizing brush techniques for a super-flat approach, students will gain the skills to adapt acrylics to their unique artistic visions. A weekly handout will cover all information, materials and techniques used in each class. Students will finish this class with having their final piece photographed for their personal portfolio.
Note: There will be no class on May 19th, Victoria Day.
Tuition: $333 + Material Fee: $30 = $363 Total

Raquel Da Silva
Raquel is a Toronto based visual artist. She holds a BFA from OCADU in Drawing and Painting, and has participated as an Artist-in-Residence at PADA Studios located in Lisbon, Portugal and the Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto xAkin Studio Residency in Toronto, CA. Through paintings, sculptural furniture, and objects, her work focuses on creating abstract environments by reimagining the function of sculptural objects and exploring the intentions behind the materials used. Her work delves into different cultural narratives and societal issues, exploring how they integrate into our everyday lives and define the human experience.
