Contemporary Art Gallery Hop with Andy Fabo

This spring get outside and explore all that Toronto Galleries have to offer! By viewing art firsthand in a variety of venues followed by casual class discussions, students will become familiar with a spectrum of Toronto galleries, art practices, issues, and media that are part of contemporary art production. Various concepts and modes of art practice, such as conceptualism, appropriation, feminist & identity-based art, text-based work, materials-based work, performance art, new media, artistic intention and globalism will be explored in gallery visits.
Note:
The first class will meet at TSA. There is a light walking/exercise component to this class. Sometimes, the TTC will be taken, depending on the venue(s). Gallery visits, locations and mode of transportation will be discussed with class.

Andy Fabo
Andy is a Toronto artist, art critic, independent curator and art educator. Since his first solo show at A Space in Toronto in 1979, he has exhibited across Canada and internationally. In 2005 he was given a retrospective at the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art. He is the author of several essays and reviews in Canadian periodicals (C Magazine, Descant, Parachute, Fuse) as well as many exhibition catalogues. He has taught in many Canadian universities, including McMaster, York, Brock and U of T. His paintings and drawings are in museum collections across Canada and his videos (collaborations with Michael Balser), have screened globally and are in numerous North American and European collections.
