Casting Small Objects

11 Week Class | Available

This course covers the casting of objects and clay sculptures into a permanent material such as plaster, resin and cold cast metals. The course will guide students through the entire process of turning a clay model into a solid, lasting sculpture, as well as creating multiple copies of a specific object. Students will be making an appropriate mold type for their subject, such as waste mold or silicon mold. Once the mold is completed, a cast in the chosen material will be done. Finally, depending on the desired look, a patina finish will be applied. Various techniques of finishing and patinas will be explored.

Notes:
- For larger-sized sculptures, an extra material cost may be required. Students must bring their own figure sculpture or object to cast. As there are multiple steps in this process, students should focus on only one item to cast, with the understanding that based on the specific project it may not be possible to complete all steps by the end of this course. This course is an appropriate follow-up course to the Figure Sculpture course, or equivalent.
- One class will be cancelled mid-term, date to be announced (rate & dates adjusted accordingly).

Base Tuition: $495 + Material Fee: $100 = $595 Total
