Ceramics: Learn to Throw! (Thurs PM)

11 Week Class | This course is completed

Learn to throw on the potter's wheel with potter and teacher, Natalie Waddell. This is a beginner level course for students looking at starting to learn about and create with clay on the wheel. No previous experience is required. Learn and build on your skills in throwing, trimming, surface decoration and glazing. Independently directed projects are encouraged with technical and creative support provided by the instructor! This course is partly structured and best suited for students with no throwing/clay experience.

Base Tuition: $530 + Material Fee: $55 = $585 Total

  • What You Will Learn
  • - For beginners learn the basic techniques to create bowls and cylindrical pieces on the wheel
    - Students with prior clay experience will receive mentoring and throwing/technical instruction and analysis
    - Explore a variety of decoration techniques such as carving, slip trailing, underglaze and use of glazes
  • independent projects with the guidance of an experienced practicing artist
Waddell, Natalie
Natalie Waddell

Natalie Waddell is a Canadian ceramic artist and educator based in Toronto. Her practice is driven by the love of process and the exploration of heritage and memory through clay. 

A student of the Sheridan College Ceramic Craft and Design program (2003), she is known for her functional and sculptural work and active participation in local ceramic and arts communities and associations including the Toronto Potters Association, the Potters Guild of Hamilton and Region, FUSION: Ontario Clay and Glass Association and NCECA - the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts and Craft Ontario.  She was featured as one of the two judges on CBC's Great Canadian Pottery Throwdown.
