Life Drawing 2: Anatomy & Figure Drawing

11 Week Class | Available

In Figure Drawing, an understanding of anatomy can help to create more subtlety of description and a better sense of articulation: the parts tying together into a cohesive and dynamic whole. This in-person class is structured for students with previous life-drawing experience who want to gain a deeper understanding of body structure for figure drawing. The course incorporates elements of anatomy, kinesiology, and drawing practice in order to enhance understanding of the body’s characteristic forms. Handouts and demos will be used along with plentiful drawing time with models to provide a dynamic overview of the most important elements of our bones and muscles.

The point of this course is not to memorize every bone and muscle in the body. It is to gain an understanding of the most important shapes and structures to know for drawing. This will help in creating stronger figure drawing, and provide a base to continue with deeper self-directed or instructed learning in the future.

Note: It is strongly recommended that students have taken a course in Introduction to Life Drawing or have basic figure drawing skills.

Base Tuition: $495 + Model Fee: $125 + Material Fee: $5 = $625 Total

Thomas is a Toronto-based artist, has been an instructor at the Toronto School of Art since 1996. Hendry has been active as an art instructor for over a decade, and he believes that learning art should be a positive discovery process. He practices this teaching philosophy beyond the Toronto School of Art at Sheridan College, The Haliburton School of Fine Arts, the AGO Gallery School, OCAD Outreach Program and the Toronto District School Board. His drawings, shown in numerous exhibitions, use the means of traditional art to create contemporary images, images that address the beauty, mystery and complexity embodied in the human form. 1996 BA (Honours), University of Guelph 1994 Diploma (Honours), Ontario College of Art 1983 Arts; Sake Inc.
