This comprehensive course is designed for students interested in learning and furthering ceramics throwing and hand-building techniques. Students will explore the creative possibilities of clay through hands-on experience, gaining valuable foundation in various methods and approaches. By the end of the course students will have created a range of pieces, utilizing both hand-built and thrown techniques.

Base Tuition: $510 + Material Fee $55 = $565 Total

    - Clay properties, preparation, and wedging
    - Proficiency and development in wheel use and creating throwing forms
    - Essential hand-building techniques, including pinch, coil, and slab construction
    - Surface decoration methods and glazing techniques Skills to combine hand-built and thrown forms
    - Create and complete independent projects References to contemporary and historic ceramics

Jon Packer

Jon has taught ceramics to youth and adults, guided by a passion for working with clay and creating supportive studio environments where students can grow creatively and confidently. He has exhibited work in Toronto and the UK, curated an exhibition of contemporary British ceramics, and continues to develop his own arts practice alongside teaching. His classes emphasize the tactile experience of clay while building skills, curiosity, and creative expression. Jon serves in a board leadership role with Craft Ontario and was recently invited to join the TSA Board of Governors, reflecting his ongoing commitment to advancing craft and arts communities.
