Composition: Learning to See Creatively
8 Week Class | This course is currently not open for registration.
Composition refers to the harmonious arrangement of the elements within a picture, and is therefore relevant to all mediums! By exploring the principles and elements of design students will learn how to intentionally create pictures with a strong visual and emotional impact. We will begin with exploring the importance of having a strong focal point by learning about contrast, leading lines and framing strategies. From there we will focus on creating emotional impact in our images by exploring different angles and vantage points. Near the end of the course we will review different colour palettes and how using hot or cool colours can change the meaning behind the image and enhance different emotions. Each week, students will be introduced to a new exercise focused on how to see different composition strategies in Master Artwork. There will also be a suggested homework exercise that students can practice with their preferred medium. Homework submissions will then be reviewed in class the following week via a class discussion. Classes will include live lectures via a projector, instructor demo drawings, student critiques, printed handouts and access to a class Google Drive with artwork for reference. All skill levels are welcome as composition is for everyone!
Base Tuition: $396 + Material Fee: $10 = $406 Total
