Learn to Throw 2: Improving Your Skills

Increase your skills on the wheel with potter and teacher, Natalie Waddell. This loosely structured level 2 course is for students wanting to improve their technical and creative skills on the wheel. Build on your skills in throwing, trimming, surface decoration and glazing. Independently directed projects are encouraged with technical and creative support provided by the instructor.
Prerequisite: Students should have previous experience throwing and working in clay and be comfortable centering and throwing a minimum of 3 pounds of clay.
Base Tuition: $565 + Material Fee: $60 = $625 Total

- What You Will Learn
- Refine and improve the basic techniques to centre clay, create bowls, cylindrical pieces and plates on the wheel
- Increase the scale of your work and experiment with throwing and altering forms
- Develop independent projects with the guidance of an experienced practicing artist
- Learn to create compound, lidded and altered forms
- Increase the scale of your work
- Explore a variety of decoration techniques such as carving, slip trailing, underglaze and glazes.
Natalie Waddell
Natalie is a Toronto-based Ceramic Artist. A student of the Sheridan College Ceramic Craft and Design program (2003), she has continued her studies by attending workshops lead by local and international ceramic artists and educators. Natalie has continuously explored and developed new bodies of functional and sculptural work. She is an active member of the Akin Artist Collective, the Toronto Potters Association, the Potters Guild of Hamilton and Region, FUSION: Ontario Clay and Glass Association and NCECA - the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts and Craft Ontario.
