In this course, students will be introduced to hand building and throwing on the potter's wheel. Suitable for absolute beginners as well as those with more clay experience, students will become acquainted with and learn to refine hand building techniques such as pinching, coiling, slabs building (both soft and hard). Fundamental wheel-throwing techniques for cylindrical and bowl forms as well as other forms based on student interest and experience. Surface exploration will be explored through removal and addition of clay as well as with underglazes and glazes.  This course includes demonstrations, discussion of material and design theory, studio health and constructive analysis.

Base Tuition: $420 + Material Fee $55 = $475 Total

Annika Hoefs

Annika is a Toronto based artist and educator, specializing in ceramics. She holds a Bachelor of Material Art and Design from OCADU where she initially began with a focus on textiles, but ended with a full concentration on ceramics. Alongside her studio practice, she has been teaching ceramic classes to students of all ages and skill levels since 2016. Annika’s functional and sculptural ceramics can be found in select gallery shops, restaurants and luxury hotels, locally and internationally.
