Composition: Learning to See Creatively

8 Week Class | This course is completed

Composition is a transferable skill that is relevant to all visual media - Illustrators, graphic designers, photographers and even architects benefit from this essential skill. This course focuses on teaching students how to see and use composition successfully. Composition refers to the way all elements of a picture work together to produce an overall effect.

Students will learn how to organize the elements of their picture so that they point towards a specific focal point by learning about leading lines and framing strategies. From there we will focus on creating emotional impact in our images by exploring how to draw different angles and vantage points. We will review how to explore different colour combinations and how using hot or cool colours can change the meaning behind the image and enhance different emotions.

Through our time together we will work through class presentations where students will be taught how to analyze an image and then design their own image with similar elements. All skill levels are welcome as composition is for everyone!

Classes will include live lectures via a projector, instructor demo drawings, student critiques, and handouts. Optional homework assignments will be offered each week and reviewed as a class.

Base Tuition: $365 + Material Fee: $10 = $375 Total
