Illustrator / Photoshop

This introductory level 8 week course focuses on Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, the industry standard software programs used by artists and designers alike. All aspects of Illustrator will be introduced, and students will learn how to create vector illustrations, edit and import image files, design layouts for graphic posters, logos, book covers, pattern making, typographic design, etc., and how to set up files for professional output. All available Illustrator tools will be thoroughly explained in an ongoing per-project basis.
Photoshop will also be addressed. It is used by many industries/professions and outputs to a wide range of file types. Among the options explored in Photoshop are: editing image files from a variety of sources; designing projects for print, web and/or devices, laying out text, photo compositing, creating simple animations for export as gifs or video files and digital painting.
Note: Students must have a basic knowledge and comfort working with computers. Students must also have a license for Photoshop and Illustrator for the duration of this course. Please see Materials for more information.

This course uses Adobe Creative Cloud Suite Photoshop and Illustrator. Since this course is offered online, students must have access to their own computer and a licensed subscription of Photoshop and Illustrator for the duration of this course.

Tobias Williams
Tobias is an artist and educator based in Toronto, Canada. He holds an MFA from York University and currently works as an instructor at OCAD U, Humber College and Toronto School of Art. He works and teaches with a variety of 2d and 3d digital media creating still images, renders and animation. His work has been shown both locally and internationally including exhibitions at Material Art fair in Mexico City, The Brandscape In Toronto, the AGM in Mississauga and with Transmediale in Berlin.
Tobias’s art and research practice uses 3d rendering and animation to explore the relationship between art, society and technology. Recent projects of his have focused on topics such as the history of Blockchain, the influence of platform based algorithms on contemporary visual culture and the ontology of virtual art spaces.
