This 10 week course is appropriate for students looking to make their drawings and paintings look and feel more three dimensional. Students will learn how to confidently draw the five major forms and how to recognize those forms in every-day objects. Students will then learn how to combine those forms into more organic shapes as our subjects for drawing become more complex. As a class, we will work through drawing demonstrations and student critiques by drawing directly over student work. Topics covered will include: gesture drawing; contour drawing; and an extended focus on proportion drawing strategies. The exercises covered in this course can be applied to drawing still life setups, the human figure, animals, singular objects and structures from your own imagination.

  • What You Will Learn:
  • The five major forms and how to combine them
  • How to recognize the five major forms in every-day objects, and draw those objects with confidence
  • Different approaches to structural drawing through gesture, contour and pressure sensitivity
  • Several different measuring and proportion drawing strategies including how to use negative spaces, alignment lines and comparative measuring
