USCG Approved Heartsaver 1st Aid/CPR/AED

This instructor led course is offered through an American Heart Association (AHA) Training Center (TC) and approved AHA instructor and reflects the science and education from the latest AHA guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).  HeartSaver courses are meant for people who are not healthcare professionals but need the certification for their job or credentialling.  As part of this course, you will receive the AHA Heartsaver workbook to use during the class and take home for future needs.

 

This course is the US Coast Guard (USCG) approved AHA Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course as it meets the USCG Elementary First Aid* training requirements of:

  • Elementary First Aid per STCW Code Table A-VI/1-3;
  • Elementary First Aid per 46 CFR 11.302(a)(3) and 46 CFR 12.602(a)(3);
  • The first aid and CPR training requirements of 46 CFR 11.201(i)(1).

Betty Nance-Floyd

Betty N. Floyd has over 35 years of clinical practice, nursing and interprofessional education, research, and management experience. She is a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) and recently retired Associate Professor Emeritus from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Nursing.  

 

Betty and her husband, Jim, have enjoyed boating since 2011 – starting with a 25 ft Catalina sailboat followed by a 34 ft Hunter sailboat.  Later, they bought their first motorboat, a 50 ft Carver Endless Journey, in 2017.  They moved on her full-time during COVID. In 2021, they moved from Endless Journey to Our Adjustment – a 60 ft. Hatteras and cruised her from Illinois to their home slip in New Bern, North Carolina, where they live now with their goldendoodle, Bailey.

 

Betty is interested in improving the safety and health of the boating community.  Betty is an American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor.  She uses her skills as an educator through the lens of a boater to apply the AHA guidelines.  Her goal is for each participant to have a rewarding first aid, CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) learning experience – to increase their confidence in live threatening situations.
