Upon retiring from the Kodak Research Labs in 2011, I created a bucket list of interests to pursue. These included sailboat racing, loom weaving and orchid growing. I signed up for a WaFAC weekly weaving class in 2012, was waited listed, and began the class in 2013.
Loom weaving was familiar to me. In the 1950s, my grandmother wove rag rugs on a two-shaft loom to sell to local department stores. I fondly remember winding fabric strips onto her weaving shuttles. I was 4 years old and this was my first job.
When my Dad retired, he wove rag rugs using Grandma’s loom and sold them at a consignment shop in Pennsylvania. He enjoyed weaving and it kept him from “getting underfoot” while Mom did her daily household chores.
I LOVED weaving class and all that I was learning. The project possibilities seemed endless !!! This is my 13th year of classes at WaFAC. I continue to love my weaving classes…having to concentrate on doing a project puts me in a Zen place. Any worries I walked into class with just faded away.
