MEDICAL AID IN DYING NOW LEGAL IN ILLINOIS
Deb's Law, named for Deb Robertson, the Illinois End-of-Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act, has legalized the practice of medical aid in dying in Illinois. The law, which expands end-of-life options beyond palliative and hospice care, went into effect on September 12, 2026. This presentation with Guest Speaker Rachel Cook provides an overview of the new law including eligibility, restrictions, and safety measures contained in the law. It includes how to access related medical care and actions both required and recommended to ensure that one's decisions are respected. Most importantly, participants will be introduced to tools designed to guide them through the process of planning an end-of-life journey aligned with their values and beliefs. The formal presentation is one hour with additional time for Q&A.
