Two hundred fifty years ago, our forefathers wrote, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Yet, many of those same forefathers owned slaves and/or supported slavery. How could this be? In this one week study group, we will explore the various factors that help explain this apparent contradiction.
