Why Miller Matters: A Study of Death of a Salesman OC

Class | Available (Membership Required)

Out of all our American playwrites, it is Arthur Miller and his iconic drama, Death of a Salesman, with its protagonist, Willie Loman, that has become emblematic of American life.  Do we still struggle for success?  Is the American Dream still a reality? Does the business world treat employees morally and ethically?  Do we grapple today with societal injustice?  If so, we are all Willie Lomans.  This class will provide background on Miller himself, the changing meaning of the American Dream, the nature and definition of literary tragedy, and the drama itself.  We will view both acts of the Dustin Hoffman film adaptation and discuss each act.  Death of a Salesman may not make you laugh, but it will make you think.
