Before European conquest, Africa was home to many powerful and sophisticated civilizations. With vast resources they established extensive trade networks throughout the continent and with the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. They built monumental architecture, had advanced agriculture along the Nile, and influential religious, cultural, and artistic traditions.  This study group will introduce participants to some of these rich cultures as well as to the impact of the arrival of the Europeans.
