This study group begins January 8, ending January 29. Weeks 1 & 2 recapture 18^th President Ulysses S. Grant’s career. The film argues that he was an honorable man (albeit his failings) who tried to keep promises made to African Americans and who managed to hold the country together in the face of deep divisions. Weeks 3 & 4 explore the 26^th President Theodore Roosevelt’s childhood, charts his meteoric rise to the presidency, and explores the turbulent years after he left office. Both documentaries are part of the highly-acclaimed PBS American Experience series.
