The History of Social Security OC

Class | Available (Membership Required)

It feels like Social Security has been around forever as most of us depend on it.  But it was only created in the 1930’s.  Given the divisions currently in the country on all kinds of subjects, the question arises as to how a program as large as Social Security was able to pass.  This presentation covers the forces that came together to create a need for a retirement program, the mechanics of the program’s passage, as well as modifications that became necessary afterward as conditions changed.  It describes how complex establishing a program like this is as well as discussing some humorous things that happened shortly after its passage.
