This class welcomes both returning students and beginners, offering personalized instruction to develop your drawing skills at your current level.
For students with drawing experience: We'll build on your foundational skills to achieve greater mastery in grayscale work. You'll explore thoughtful composition, learn to balance form and technique with subject matter, and discover alternative and contemporary drawing approaches. We'll delve into advanced shading techniques including cross hatching, blending, and varied line work to create convincing spatial depth and form. You'll also learn to arrange elements for stronger compositions and explore translating grayscale studies into color. Independent projects are encouraged.
For beginning students: We'll focus on essential graphite drawing skills, covering fundamental elements like line quality and edges, texture creation, breaking down complex forms into simple shapes, and developing form through shading. These core skills provide a strong foundation that transfers seamlessly to color work in both drawing and painting.
All students will work at their own pace with individualized guidance where we can help and inspire each other.
