Intermediate Portrait Drawing

6 Week Class | Available

Dive a little deeper into drawing portraits. This course will provide students with time, information and feedback to help develop their portrait drawing practice. Working with long poses and a variety of models, we will build on the `basics’ of portrait drawing, to create more resolved works.

Topics to be covered will include pictorial composition, drawing hands and fabrics. Instruction will consist of short lectures, demo drawings, handouts and video clips and lots of in-class drawing time. Media will include graphite, charcoal and Conte crayon.

Recommended prerequisites: Students should ideally have had at least one term of Introductory level drawing and have taken Portrait Drawing Basics (or equivalent experience).

Base Tuition: $333 + Model Fee: $75 + Material Fee: $10 = $418 Total

Thomas Hendry

Thomas is a Toronto-based artist, has been an instructor at the Toronto School of Art since 1996. Hendry has been active as an art instructor for over a decade, and he believes that learning art should be a positive discovery process. He practices this teaching philosophy beyond the Toronto School of Art at Sheridan College, The Haliburton School of Fine Arts, the AGO Gallery School, OCAD Outreach Program and the Toronto District School Board. His drawings, shown in numerous exhibitions, use the means of traditional art to create contemporary images, images that address the beauty, mystery and complexity embodied in the human form. 1996 BA (Honours), University of Guelph 1994 Diploma (Honours), Ontario College of Art 1983 Arts; Sake Inc.
